Project Overview

In 2026, Shangqiu Jinpeng Industrial Co., Ltd. delivered two sets of semi-continuous rubber powder pyrolysis plants to a waste recycling investor in Indonesia. Both lines have completed commissioning and are now in formal production.

This installation was the client's first project with Jinpeng. Its successful start-up and stable operation subsequently led the same client to commission a far larger municipal solid waste pyrolysis facility - 21 sets of 15TPD batch-type MSW pyrolysis plants, which has since completed commissioning and trial run.

Why Semi-Continuous Technology for Rubber Powder

Rubber powder, or crumb rubber, is a processed feedstock derived from waste tires after steel and fiber separation. Because it arrives as a fine, uniform, free-flowing material rather than as bulky whole tires, it is particularly well suited to semi-continuous processing.

Semi-continuous pyrolysis sits between batch and fully continuous technology:

Feeding is continuous or near-continuous, made possible by the uniform particle size of rubber powder, which allows automated screw or sealed conveying systems to load material steadily.

Discharge is performed in controlled intervals, giving the operator more direct process control than a fully continuous system while still avoiding the long cool-down and reload downtime of a pure batch cycle.

Cycle turnaround is significantly shortened, raising effective utilization compared with batch processing of the same feedstock.

For a client processing a consistent, pre-sized rubber powder stream, this configuration delivers higher throughput and lower labor intensity per ton than batch reactors, without the higher capital cost and stricter feedstock uniformity demands of a fully continuous plant.

Key system features delivered:

Automated sealed feeding system matched to the flow characteristics of rubber powder, minimizing air ingress and manual handling

Semi-continuous reactor design with controlled interval discharge, shortening cycle turnaround compared to batch operation

Multi-stage condensing system for efficient recovery of pyrolysis oil from the oil-gas stream

Non-condensable gas recycling back to the heating system, reducing external fuel consumption

Carbon black collection and conveying system designed for the fine particle output typical of rubber powder feedstock

Flue gas treatment system and safety interlocks configured for the project's local compliance requirements

Recovered Products

Processing rubber powder in a sealed, oxygen-limited environment recovers three main output streams:

Pyrolysis fuel oil - used as industrial fuel or further refined

Carbon black - because the feedstock is already free of steel wire and fiber, the recovered carbon black is typically finer and more consistent than that from whole-tire pyrolysis, making it more suitable for upgrading

Combustible gas - recirculated as process heating fuel to improve overall energy efficiency

Notably, no steel wire separation stage is required, since the wire has already been removed during upstream crumb rubber production. This simplifies both the process line and the downstream product handling.

From First Project to Large-Scale Expansion

The commercial significance of this project extends beyond its own capacity. It served as the reference installation that established the client's confidence in Jinpeng's equipment, engineering support, and commissioning capability.

On the strength of these two lines entering stable production, the same client proceeded to invest in a 21-set, 15TPD batch-type municipal solid waste pyrolysis facility - one of the largest MSW pyrolysis installations Jinpeng has delivered. That project has now completed commissioning and trial run.

This progression illustrates a pattern common in emerging waste-to-energy markets: investors begin with a well-defined, uniform feedstock such as rubber powder to validate the technology and their own operating capability, then scale into more complex, higher-volume municipal waste streams.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is semi-continuous pyrolysis? Semi-continuous pyrolysis is a processing method in which feedstock is fed into the reactor continuously or at frequent intervals, while residue discharge occurs at controlled intervals. It offers shorter cycle turnaround than batch pyrolysis and lower feedstock-uniformity requirements than fully continuous systems.

Why is rubber powder suited to semi-continuous processing? Rubber powder has a uniform, fine particle size and flows freely, allowing automated sealed feeding systems to load it steadily. Whole tires, by contrast, are bulky and irregular, which generally makes batch reactors more practical for that feedstock.

What is the difference between rubber powder pyrolysis and whole tire pyrolysis? Rubber powder has already had steel wire and fiber removed upstream, so no wire separation stage is needed and the recovered carbon black is typically finer and more consistent. Whole tire pyrolysis recovers steel wire as an additional saleable product.

What products are recovered from rubber powder pyrolysis? Pyrolysis fuel oil, carbon black, and non-condensable combustible gas. Actual yields depend on rubber composition, particle size, moisture content, and operating parameters.

What pyrolysis equipment does Jinpeng supply? Jinpeng's standard product range includes 10TPD and 15TPD batch-type pyrolysis plants and 30TPD and 50TPD continuous-type pyrolysis plants, along with semi-continuous configurations for suitable feedstocks such as rubber powder.
